A Ransomware Attack Case Study
A Ransomware Attack Case Study
Speakers:
Barbara Rubel, MBA, FRBMA
Lisa Adams
Cyberattacks of all kinds are on the increase with no signs of slowing down. In the U.S. alone, cyberattacks increased from 2021 to 2022 by 57%. The top three industries with the highest increase in attacks from 2021 to 2022 are Education/Research (+43%); Government/Military (+46%); and Healthcare (+74%).
Ransomware, malware that blocks access to data, or publicizes confidential information, unless a ransom is paid, is both an industry and a business model that is working. Protected health information (PHI) is worth a lot of money and the healthcare industry is frequently accessing and sharing PHI remotely among multiple entities which increases opportunities for attacks. Our speaker will walk you through a ransomware attack case study and offer steps you can take to protect yourself from an attack.
