HB Performance Benchmarking With the ACR's National Radiology Data Registry

Using metrics to track performance relative to peers and benchmarks has been shown to improve practice across medicine. The American College of Radiology’s National Radiology Data Registry (NRDR) offers radiology practices an opportunity to compare their performance to benchmarks. NRDR currently consists of five databases. This presentation will provide an overview of all the available databases, the participation process, and the effort and benefits for facilities.

IC Improving the Financial Health of a Freestanding Imaging Center Through a Hospital Joint Venture

A large academic imaging center, already closely affiliated with its academic hospital, was challenged to improve its financial performance. After extensive financial and legal analysis, it was determined that converting the center to a hospital-based practice was the best option. This session will detail that analysis, its ultimate decision and the structure currently used.

O Using Cloud Computing for Sharing Radiology Files Saves Costs, Time and Labor

A cloud-based, vendor-neutral service was adopted to share radiology images and reports with outside facilities that have disparate IT systems. The service replaces the previous inefficient and costly approach: Burn files to CDs, then transport via express mail or air transport. The new system saves an estimated $9,400 per year in labor and transport costs, is simple to use and is near-instantaneous.

- Analyze whether the use of cloud-computing to share radiology files can save time, costs and labor compared to older methods such as uploading files to CDs and transporting them by courier or air transport
- Describe the technology that makes possible the simple, secure sharing of imaging files and radiology reports via the Internet

One of the biggest game changers is the move toward Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs). O Fair Market Value for Physician Compensation Arrangements

In situations that involve one or more non-profit entities or are governed by Stark and other regulations, the fees for physician compensation arrangements (including employment agreements, medical directorships, call coverage arrangements, AS&T, and professional/technical allocation arrangements) must be equal to fair market value. Management agreements and billing agreements also may need to be priced at arm's length fair market rates. Find out the various types of ancillary agreements at risk, the regulatory concerns, and the methods of pricing or valuing the fair market rates for such agreements.
