Hospital Contracting in an Era of Realignment

Presented by: Thomas Greeson, JD and Paul Pitts, JD

Radiology is at a crossroads with increasing economic and competitive pressures. Hospitals are requesting new terms and express commitments in their professional services agreements that are designed to ascertain and document high quality, efficient services while achieving patient and physician satisfaction. Those radiology groups that succeed in demonstrating value and strategic alignment with their hospital-partners will have a clear advantage in securing and maintaining long-term professional services agreements. A thoughtful contract should create a framework for achieving the parties' shared goals and aligning their economic interests while appropriately allocating legal and business risk. This session will focus on hospital-radiology group alignment and contracting in an era of value-based relationships. We will explore various models of alignment and specific contracting terms and issues.

At the conclusion of this session the attendee will be able to:

  • Appreciate the evolution in the relationships between radiology groups and hospitals
  • Consider several models of value-added activities that can be incorporated into hospital PSAs
  • Articulate the strategic importance of radiology group-hospital realignment
