Stepping Into the World of Interventional Radiology

Stepping Into the World of Interventional Radiology
Presented by: Bethany Geiger, MBA, Mary Horkey, RCC, RCCIR

The session introduces active coders to the variety of procedures that fall under the umbrella of “IR” coding.  This is a fast growth area for certified coders where skills are needed in and out of the Department of Radiology.  It is more difficult for these complex procedures to be processed solely using natural language processing, so an enhanced skill that taps into a wider range application of anatomy, terminology, and communication skills is needed than coding the average x-ray.

At the end of the webinar, attendees will be able to:

Name the various specialties that may need the skills of an “IR” coder.
Identify the range of complexity within this skill set.
Code sample reports for entry-level procedures and explores the type of reports at the more complex end of the field.
Decide if they have an interest (possible passion) for this diverse and fast-growing profession.
